Good afternoon. On the 3:55PM out of the City. Day Eleven of the US Shutdown.

Americans survive, not because of a specific “American Spirit” or “rugged individualism”, but because we are human and have needs. Shelter, safe food, a stable economic environment, good health. Thing is, the current political environment has obviated those basic, Capitalistic, economic needs of some 800,000 Americans, and have jeopardized the integrity of our borders, our food distribution chain, and our employment verification system (to name a few).

Some on the right are using the argument “See? The sky hasn’t fallen! The sun still rises! Keep looking at the things we’re showing you! Nah, don’t worry about those people! They’re not real Americans. They are whiny welfare people. The other.”

God Bless Amerika.

Enough about those things. Timothy Leary and Jane Goodall are sitting in the opposite jump seat. They are a married older couple. Chatting up a storm – about friends, students (they are both professors), and newly met contemporaries. They are obviously visiting from somewhere else and have family (a son or daughter) in the Western Suburbs. I want to be this animated in twenty years. Perhaps they are tripping on acid?

Slats Grobnick, the recurring personality in Mike Royko’s columns back in the heyday of newspapers, is here. He’s reading from an iBlazeNebula device. Perhaps he is re-reading about his characterization made by the late, great Chicago journalist?

Also here are the Usual Suspects, three trolls, Bernie Madoff, Felicity Huffman and Winona Ryder. All are armed.

It’s the arrogance of the conservatives that bothers me. A misplaced Holier than Thou attitude that gets my goat. Governance, managing people, and business is never based mainly on messaging or advertising. You need to have product, which means you need to have products that EVOLVE! The Right doesn’t know how to evolve.

Happy Friday. Safe Travels.
