Good morning.
I’m on the 7:55AM into the City, after just missing the 7:30AM. Happy Friday to all.

It’s been awhile since I have posted about the comings and goings on the train. Lots of changes happening for the commuter set.

The train is less crowded. This could be due to more telecommuting opportunities. This train is one of the later express trains, so many of the hard working commuter set are packed in on the 7:30, or the very intrepid 7:15 expresses. Or, perhaps the GOP candidates are right. All of that exciting talk of new job growth isn’t translating to mid-level admin, systems analyst, residential home loan account representative, or civil engineer job. Perhaps that growth is in the retail side?

I’d take some time and look at the Bureau of Labor Statistics data, but I’ve got papers to push and contractors to stare down, so I’ll leave it up to WSJ and Bloomberg to sort out.

Well, enough about my random thoughts.

Roger Sterling is here. For those of you unfamiliar, he is the head of the Sterling Cooper advertising agency, documented in the show Mad Men. Our real life version on the train has the stark white hair, but instead of a cutthroat CEO, our Mr. Sterling has a more professor emeritus look about him. The hair is unkempt and has taken on a mid-90’s David Bowie sort of form. The furrows of  his face are spot on like John Slattery’s Sterling. Our man has glasses with the strap, so when he takes them off, the specs hang like a necklace. He’s reading the paper and doing the crosswords. I think he’s going to go to the office, fire and intern and head to Ruth Chris’ for a liquid lunch.

A Desi version of Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory is here, seated three seats back. Balding head, thick glasses big ears, the man is seated, with fabulous posture, and either meditating or asleep. The only real difference between our man and Sheldon is our man’s milk chocolate skin tone.

Also here are Issac Asimov, Stephen Chu, Stephen Fry, Molly Ringwald, and Anil Kapoor. All are armed.

Happy Friday
Safe travels.

Good morning.

I’m on the slightly tense 7:55AM. Its a full blown snowgasm today. Six inches of Old Man Winter coat the area like a multiple homicide crime scene.

Tensions are high. I live roughly six miles from the station. It took me forty minutes to reach the station. I should have been on the 7:30AM.

Though I am in the front quiet car, the foyer of the car, which is the entrance and exit for both halves, is a place to make noise. There is a completely disgruntled woman who’s voice can be heard through the closed automatic doors, complaining to the conductor (my buddy, Steve) about how another conductor did not allow her to enter the train from the leeward card entrance. She wants to confront this other conductor, a wiry Latino fellow who easily could be a Shark from West Side Story. In fact, I’m hoping they’ll have an dance battle in the foyer to resolve the disrespect issue.

I am sitting in a jump seat with three Portuguese women. I am presuming they are Portuguese, because they aren’t speaking Spanish or Greek or French.

Then young lady of the group looks like a very young Janeane Garofalo. Her mother is more Sonia Braga looking. The friend/aunt sitting next to me reminds me of a Bernstein Bear.

As soon as the train started, Janeane and Sonia whipped out their makeup kits. Janine had something called “Sexy Smoky” and it ended up being eye shadow. An excellent choice. Sonia had a special portable kit with all sorts of colors and appliques, issued by Coco Channel or someone from “Q” branch of MI6.

Also here are Hannibal Lechter, Issac Asimov, Gary Busey, and Veronica Mars. All are armed.

Happy Wednesday. Keep shoveling through it. It’ll be over soon.
Safe travels.

Good morning.

On the comfy 7:30AM into the City. The NFI is 2.

I haven’t been sleeping well. I don’t know why. There are always multiple things on my mind and I have been able to sleep soundly before. There’s something else. If In figure it out, I’ll let you know.

The fellow that looks like Anil Kapoor is sitting across the aisle in the opposite jumpseat. Handsome, short, the middle aged Desi fellow is tapping away on his iCrackerBot. He has stylish glasses.

He is most likely a well paid IT/DB middle manager, expert in Oracle and SAS environments. His job is to see that other developer staff members are doing their jobs. He is the SME – the subject matter expert.

But all he really wants to do is to dance. You see, when our fellow was a young lad, he was guided to go into IT and programming, but unbeknownst to his parents and seven other siblings, he had this desire to play the lead role in an off-Mumbai, Disney funded, modern dance interpretation of Mississippi Masala. He was to play the role of the indignant father. But, instead, he got a full ride to the Indian Institute of Technology, and is now an IT middle manger for one of the Too Big to Fail banks.

There is another fellow seated three seats back that looks exactly like Issac Asimov. His bushy eyebrows and stark, silver, wispy hair barely covering an impressive skull. Now, I’m no phrenologist, but I am prepared to wager that our science fiction writer doppelganger has quite a story to tell about discovering the physics of peanut butter or divining the secrets of Chia Seeds. I would love to interview him.

Also here are Dr. Carl Sagan, Suze Orman, Timothy Leary, and Zoe Saldana. All are armed.

Happy Tuesday. Safe travels.

Good afternoon. On the 4:30PM out of the City. Feeling decidedly overwhelmed. I went from seeking new employment opportunities to being over-booked for my time, and considering new startups. Not that I am complaining. I just wish I didn’t burn out so fast before completing tasks. Right now, the Gantt Chart is approaching deadlines requiring 35-hour-days of ‘me-ductivity’ (trademarked). Well enough about me.

Lots of activity in the front car. Two overworked site foremen are having and after-work tallboy on train and chatting about work, family and baseball. They both have quintessential City accents, born of Pullman cars and meatpackers. They are sitting in the opposite jump seat. Both are caressing the bulges in their respective pockets. Oh, and both are armed.

A Caucasian version of a young Prince (the musician) and Margaret Cho (pre GB surgery) sat down in my jump seat. MC opened her organic-green compostable, reusable grocery bag to grab a bag of chips. Inside are a Big-Box box of Snack Paks and a smaller bag containing pink children’s booties. Chocolate mousse and fudge swirl, if you were wondering. The box was pressed up against her .44 Magnum at the bottom of her bag.

He is wearing a fashionable, steampunk-ish maroon-brown leather jacket. Zippers everywhere, riveted collar button, finger gloves with holes for the tips and a mitten-round stitched to the back of the hand for protection from the elements. His black and white, very fashionable scarf is elegantly tied around his thinly-circumferenced neck. He has a single shot hand pistol, Artemis Fowl style, hidden in a sleeve zipper.

Both he and MC are on their iCrackerBots, chatting with other people. We live in a strangely connected world where the opinion and worldview of disembodied friends take precedence over the live friend in front of you. Hmph. Fascinating.

Also here are the two African-American women previously discussed in a past-ride home, Issac Asimov, Brian Greene of String-Theory fame, Moe Greene of Godfather II, and former Senator Carol Mosley-Braun (D-IL). All are armed.

Have a safe afternoon. I must get back to work. Safe travels.
